Machine gets rebooted during Windows PE stage (using SCCM 2007 SP2 OSD)

    Question

  • Hi, I am trying to deploy Windows XP thru SCCM 2007 SP2 and everything goes fine with machine booting thru Windows PE and after showing preparing Network connection the machine gets rebooted automatically.

Even i tried to Deploy Windows 7 and it reboots at same stage. Everything was working till few days back and it seems everything is broken up now.

Has anyone seen this and how should i troubleshoot?

I have enabled Windows PE command support and tried to fetch out smsts.log file from machine where i am deploying TS and it doesn't show any error.

I have tried to Ping SCCM Server and DHCP server from client where I am deploying TS and I am able to ping both servers.

Can someone help me on this?

Answers

  • Hi All - I am able to find on what was the exact issue behind this problem.

Microsoft Conif Manager 2007 client installation was part of my TS and the same package was not copied over to DP's which was causing this reboot to happen.

After the package was being copied over to DP's everything started working perfectly fine.

  • This started to happen to me about an hr ago.  I was using a VMWare environment to test OSD.  I couldn't figure it out and eventually had to create a whole new Virtual machine in order to get it to stop doing that which leads me to believe it had something do to with the machine/machine account.  Don't know that this information helps you, but it might shine a little light on the problem for someone helping you.  Thanks!

  • I thought I had fixed this... apparently it just happened to work that one time... I am attempting to use my Windows XP deployment task sequence... and it too is just rebooting the machine after preparing network connections.  It worked over and over and over the last 2 weeks... all of a sudden it doesn't??

  • Apparently I am facing exactly same problem. Everything was working fine for few weeks and suddently it broke down. It worked one time in between as you mentioned but for past one week, i tried everything and nothing seems to be working.

Not sure if it is a bug or we are doing something wrong?

    Someone please help us?

  • I have restarted WDS services multiple times and also tried re-configuring WDS again (but no luck).

I am running in Mixed Mode as i am not using KPI certificates.

Is there any other log file which you would like to see?

    - "MP Control Manager detected MP is not responding to HTTP requests. The http error is 12002."

  • I received this error again in SMS_MP_Control_Manager

SMS Management Point encountered an error when connecting to the database SMS_GUR on SQL Server SCCM 2007. The OLEDB error was 0x80004005.

  • @nb82 you need to resolve your managment point errors before trying anything else, id suggest you google the errors particularly the sql database connection (is sql remote or local)

  • I am running the TS advertisements as Mandatory and my SQL server is local.

Is there anything you can suggest on SQL errors?
    Thursday, February 18, 2010 5:20 PM
  • Niall... any reason you can think of why the TS would only be rebooting when it was an optional TS?

I believe most of my errors are due to restarting the server... it gets grumpy for a day or 2, then the errors generally resolve themselves.
