SCOM 2012 Agent Installation fails

  • Hello,

when I try to push the installation of SCOM 2012 agent through Console on windows server 2012 Standard it always fails with this error:

The Agent Management Operation Agent Install failed for remote computer server.domain.local.
    Error Code: 80070643
Error Description: Fatal error during installation.

Manual installation fails too. Both installations (manual & console) have this error in application event viewer:

    Event ID: 10005

Product: System Center Operations Manager 2012 Agent -- Error 25211.Failed to install performance counters.. Error Code: -2147024809 (The parameter is incorrect.).

The installation on server 2003 and server 2008 R2 is done without problem. Does anybody have an idea how to solve this problem?

    Thank you in advance

  • Hi

    From here -

The SC2012 RTM agent requires .NET3.5 be installed on WS2012. (SC2012 SP1 agent does not have this requirement)

Could you check that this is the case (although I'm surprised that the pre-install check doesn't pick this up).

Other agent install troubleshooting options are here:

  • I had the same issue(error code:80070643) with SCOM 2012. In my case, the problem was that i had Service Manager Console installed on the machine that i wanted to install SCOM agent.
After i uninstall the Service Manager Console, the installation of SCOM agent was a success.
The problem(error) also might occur if you already had installed features(older or incompatibile) from SCOM, SCSM or System Center Essentials.

  • As this is the first thread in my search for a similar problem I'll post here.  I received the same error when trying to upgrade a 2007 agent to 2012, and then a clean install of the 2012 agent. It appears the 2007 agent health service didn't get removed and was set to a disabled state. All agent files were removed successfully. I had to reboot for the machine to completely remove the old service. The new 2012 agent install then went on fine.

This was on a 2008 r2 system.  The msi installer logs showed the service error however, the "System Center Operations Manager 2012 Agent -- Error 25211.Failed to install performance counters.. Error Code: -2147024809 (The parameter is incorrect.)." was the only thing that displayed in the gui.
