Scheduling Discovery in SCOM 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are an OU under a domin (X) so our servers are located under the OU.  We do not want to run the discovery to go and scan all the servers the domain (X).  Where/how can schedule the discovery to only find our servers within the (X) domain OU?  Is there anywhere in SCOM 2007 like MOM 2005 to define the rule which can be scheduled to run at certain time of day and discover the newly added servers?  Thanks, Ziba

  • I think ZibaK meant server discovery, like discovery wizard in Administration Pane. Unfortunately this functionality is not available in SCOM 2007.
This was replaces by Active Directory Integration.
Of course, everythink is possible to done by scripts.

I think Pete described object discovery after agent was deployed to server.

  • Your ability to control the interval at which object discoveries run depends on the discovery. In order to prevent discovery of systems, you will need to disable the root discovery in each management pack for the group of systems you do not wish to be discovered. If the systems have already been discovered, you will need to run remove-disabledmonitoringobject afterward (see http://www.systemcentercentral.com/BlogDetails/tabid/143/IndexID/16386/Default.aspx for more on this)

I would suggest you perhaps watch the videos on Targeting, Adjusting Monitors with Overrides http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/opsmgr/bb498237.aspx

Also, have a look at this article on targeting by Steve Rachui, which may offer some insight. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.11.targeting.aspx?pr=blog
