SCVMM 2008 R2 install error 2927 (0x80338113) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

I have had problems with connection to host in SCVMM 2008 R2. SCVMM was installed on that particular host (other two hosts were communicating with SCVMM normally). The error was saying something about VMM agent not being installed or not started (although it was started and WinRM was also configured). I have then uninstalled SCVMM from host and tried to reinstall. The installation was unsuccesfull, the error was ID:2927 (0x80338113). A hardware management error has occurred trying to contact server >servername>. Check that WinRM is installed and running on server <servername>. The servername is the name of this host.

SQL database is not installed locally but on SQL cluster (no problems with installation, the database is created during the SCVMM installation).

    Any ideas?

    Regards, Marko.

  • HI em3601,

Could you ensure you have the latest roll-up installed for SCVMM?

Also, there are a number of external patches that PSS support recommends and you can find those here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2397711

Hopefully, once you get all required updates this problem will no longer exist.  IF this problem still exists after you ensure all necessary patches are installed please re-activate your post.

  • Hi!

I have found the problem. It was the group policy that is used for configuring WinRM on all W2K8 servers. When I disabled this GPO the installation

    was successfull.

    Thanks for your help, anyway.

    Regards, Marko.

  • Can you try to install the agent locally and then adding the host? Following the following steps:

    1) Make sure to remove the host from AdminConsole or CLI

    2) Locally uninstall the agent from the host machine (using Add/Remove programs)

    3) Locally install the agent using VMM setup (using the local agent install option)

    4) Add the host from Admin Console or the CLI.

I have tried the steps you suggested before I have uninstalled the SCVMM (as I mentioned above) but it didn't work, so

I am without the SCVMM at the moment.

  • I have restarted the server and tried to install SCVMM 2008 R2 again. The same error appears.

A Hardware Management error has occurred trying to contact server SERVER. Check that WinRM is installed and running on server SERVER. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult".

ID: 2927. Details: Unknown error (0x80338113)

     C:\Windows\system32>winrm helpmsg 0x80338113

The WinRM client sent a request to an HTTP server and got a response saying the requested HTTP URL was not available. This is usually returned by a HTTP server that does not support the WS-Management protocol.

I have checked that all updates are on the machine. The SQL server is 2008 R2.

  • try running "winrm qc" and see if it succeeds. If it succeeds, can you try installing again.

  • This was the first thing I have tried. Of course, the result for winrm was successful, the installation was not (I have tried 4 or 5 times).

  • Can you check if your host meets the OS requirements,

  • SCVMM was running at least 4 months on this server, so OS requirements are not a problem.

  • I had the same problem.  I had a powershell GPO that was setting up WinRM for automatic listeners.  VMM setup did not seem to like this at all.  I'm wondering if I can reapply the GPO now that setup is done.  Probably shouldn't, but I'd really like the GPO to allow my powershell administration.

If anyone else has this problem the policy is located here:

    Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Remote Management (WinRM)/WinRM Service

    -Allow automatic configuration of listeners

  • Hi,

I encountered the exact same problem on my hosts after setting up a VMM2012RC, joining the hosts to that.
When testing was completed we had also enabled the WinRM policy as described above and I got the exact errormessage when trying to reattach the hosts to our VMM2008R2 setup.

I too want to use the GPO for WinRM - are there any guidelines for how to use this GPO together with VMM?

    UPDATE:
Found this, which pretty much answers the question..
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2011/09/23/vmm-2012-rc-understanding-the-hyper-v-host-addition-operation-if-window-remote-management-winrm-is-configured-using-group-policy-gpo-settings.aspx

However, by this design, it doesn't feel very good using the policy in its current state, even though I hate manual configs..
