SCCM2007 SP1, Discovery and Netbios Name RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We have an AD Topology like that in our forest ( 1 root domain and 100 subdomains) :

    rootdom.com
      subdom1.rootdom.com
      subdom2.rootdom.com
      subdom3.rootdom.com
      ...
      ...

In each subdomain, hosts are using the same Netbios'name, for exemple :

    serv1.subdom1.rootdom.com
    pc1.subdom1.rootdom.com

    serv1.subdom2.rootdom.com
    pc1.subdom2.rootdom.com

    ...
    ...

Actually we only use one SCCM'server (Primary) installed in root domain as member server. As Discovery Method we principally use the 4 AD Discovery possibilities. Discovery works well except AD System Discovery.

When we are looking in collection "All systems" we cannot find every "serv1" or "pc1" systems but only one of them. When looking the "pc1" properties, we can find several instances of IP Adresses, IP Subnets, Resource Names like this :

    IP Adresses[0] : 10.100.1.218
    IP Adresses[1] : 10.100.2.218
    IP Adresses[2] : 10.100.3.218

    IP Subnets[0] :  10.100.1.0
    IP Subnets[1] :  10.100.2.0
    IP Subnets[2] :  10.100.3.0

    Resource Names[0] : pc1.subdom1.rootdom.com
    Resource Names[1] : pc1.subdom2.rootdom.com
    Resource Names[2] : pc1.subdom3.rootdom.com

Does SCCM is able to work with several equivalent Netbios Name in differents subdomains ? If yes, how to do it ?

    Thanks for your help.

  • No, we track by NetBIOS names, so you can't have the same NetBIOS name in different domains. You need unique NetBIOS names.
