Migrating Run As Accounts from 2012 to 2016? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys,

We're almost finished with our migration from SCOM 2012 to SCOM 2016. Configuring Run As Accounts for SQL and other functions remains though. Is there a way to export them from SCOM 2012 and import them to our new 2016 group or do we need to add them manually again?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

it is possible to automate the process up to some extend, but this could easily get very complex, because of RunAs account distribution and profile mappings and targeting.

There are some PoSh cmdlets, which can be used, but they are not meant for exporting and importing RunAs accounts, so you would need to use also the SDK.

    Get-SCOMRunAsDistribution

    Get-SCOMRunAsProfile

    Get-SCOMRunAsAccount

    Update-SCOMRunAsAccount

The approach Kevin shows in his blog post is also very interesting:

Automating Run As Account Distribution – Finally!

At the end, you may end up spending far more time automating this, then you would spend if you do this manually, so the question in such cases is "why automating this at all?". I would do this manually or automate only small part of it.

Hope I was able to help.

    Regards,
