  • Hi,

Its totally possible. You just install SCSM Management Server and don't install the Data Warehouse.

Whether you should depends on your requirements around retention and reporting. You will get best performance from SCSM if you only keep 1 year or so of data within in. If you need to keep data longer than this, then you have 2 initial options. Keep more in the main SCSM database (and suffer the performance consequences or provide more server resources to mitigate) or put it somewhere else.

If you go with the somewhere else, then Data Warehouse is only one option. You could take SQL backups, your own SQL maintenance task to populate your own database, or use a third party solution. Which to use will probably depend on your reporting requirements. If you just need to keep the data for legal reasons etc., then SQL backups are probably fine. If you want simple trend reporting of key work item metrics over the last 10 years, your own database or a third party solution will work nicely.

There's lots to think about. However, I do recommend you really do consider all this before proceeding with a Data Warehouse and spinning up 2 expensive servers, with expensive licensing and giving yourself a maintenance handful, if its not going to give you any or much value.
