"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"

    السؤال

  • I am having this problem with Win8 Pro AMD Radeon HD 6670 with 2GB especially using IE10

Driver is up to date according to AMD and MS

This appears to be the same problem that  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946 addresses with a  Fix this problem
Microsoft Fix it 50848 for Windows 7

Having to do with adjusting the Timeout Detection and Recovery registry value.

Could we use the same fix with Windows 8?

Install the 13.1 AMD driver and apply the TdrDelay value.

  • Yes, you should also use the Workaround in WIn8. If the fixit doesn't work, try to edit the TdrDelay value directly in the registry.

  • Tried the MS FixIt but got the error message that the fixit does not apply to your OS version.

Can't find the article that gave me the 32bit and 64 bit actual registry entries

I will try the adjusting the visual effect option changing  from Let Windows decide what's best for my computer to adjust for best performance and report back.

  • Andre,

Did that but it was worthless its Method 2 was : Install the latest updates which is meaningless for Win 8 and then Method 3 is : Investigate possible issues with visual effects or background programs.

That is the place that suggests adjusting the visual effects options which I did.

I'll report back next day or so after I have spent time on the system, still would like to look at adjusting the Time Delay entries

  • Hi ,

I am having an issue while playing this game called sleeping dogs.

I play it for a good 20 min then the game goes to windowed mode with  a black screen. The game seems to be running smoothly, except with a blank screen.

I do not have any screensaver/sleep mode settings etc...

I noticed that it says display driver is not responding and it has recovered. I have faced the issue with just this game. Ive played other games (Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Call of Juarez , Remember Me,Crysis 3 etc...), basically any game demanding good video memory, and not once have I faced this issue. This happens only while playing sleeping dogs.

    I have an Alienware M14x R2 with 3.3Ghz I7 processor, 16GB RAM, 2GB dedicated VRAM (NVidia GT650M DDR5), 1TB HDD with Win 8.

I have overclocked the GPU to 969Mhz core and 3000Mhz MEM; Ive been playing with high clocks right from day one and somehow this problem happens only with sleeping dogs.

I would be extremely grateful if u can help me out.

    Thanks in advance!!

    07/شعبان/1434 12:12 م
  • But will  i get a good perf with the stock ? My stock clocks are 745 core and 2000 MEM
    07/شعبان/1434 02:55 م
  • Yes i agree ... but then again these machines are powerful enough to take it ...even with high clocks i hit a max of 62 degrees and this is only on sleeping dogs ... the rest of the games hit 60 ... these machines can handle 75 as well ... and im sure u being a gamer will agree to overclocking ... however i noticed one of the svchost.exe (service host local system (network restricted)) services eating up the memory (181 MB at its peak) ... but my rig has 16GB of mem ... so this shouldn't be a problem ...
    08/شعبان/1434 08:30 ص
  • of course the video card memory is separate ... when i say its taking 181 MB i meant 181MB of the main memory ... any reason why this svchost file takes up so much memory ? is it common ?

  • Andre,

Feed back after too long to finish the regedit process in the "Let me fixit by myself" solution.

I used the value of "8" but the directions did not discuss whether or not I should use Hexadecimal or Decimal, I left it set in the default of Hex.

I already had the 13.1 Drivers installed and I notice that the latest set of drivers is 13.4, I am wondering do I want to upgrade ? The check for upgrade dialog that come up when using Device Manager say I have the latest drivers but the ATI site shows later drivers.

Haven't had any Display Driver faults since I made the recommended changes

    Ernie

    08/شعبان/1434 06:01 م
  • For 8 it makes no difference what you select. At 10 it males a difference. 10 (dec) = A (hex).

Also try the 13.6 (BETA) drivers:

  • Still getting the errors in event viewer (display) but no on screen messages.

Do the 13.6 Beta drivers specifically address this problem?

    15/شعبان/1434 07:28 م
  • Have you changed the registry value? Does this help?

"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code"

    15/شعبان/1434 07:49 م
  • Andre,

Yes. like I mention in my message last Monday, I changed the registry to 8. I am not getting the screen blinks and the message that the display driver is not responding and it has recovered. It does still come up with IE events in the log.

So far so good, just wondered if the 13.6 Beta addressed the display timeout issues.

  • I found a fix.

In my case, the problem stood in one program called Cacao web...i closed it in task manager process and now all running well.

Cacao web is an plug in for watch online streaming films.

Try to find a program that could occupy your graphic card.

I suggest that you go to the task manager and close each process and try if somthing changes.

    good luck

    Sory for my english.
