there are numerous reports on the internet about the NOTORIOUS error 0x800f0a12. I already tried the steps here:
and also read here
bcdedit, bootrec, bootsect & co DO NOT help. I tried all of them. They cannot access the partion and I get the following error when trying to use them:
"Updated NTFS filesystem bootcode. The update may be unreliable since the volume could not be locked during the update: Access denied"
I'm using grud and explicitely updated the windows7 mbr with bootsect.
The problem is that the sp1 tries to reach the 200MB system partition which I NEVER CREATED. It's not removed, deleted etc. It's just NOT THERE.
So can some genious try to explain how to update win7 with sp1 WITHOUT THE NEED TO REINSTALL IT???21. února 2011 20:30
maybe the tone in the first post was not appropriate but I hope you can understand my frustration with this. Please excuse me.
Now back to the problem. As I already wrote most of the recovery options don't work for me. I have 4 primary partition on my hdd. The 4th is for windows 7-x64. All partitions were created with gparted some time ago and the windows partiotn was quick-erased (not fully reformated) when installing windows. Of course I also use grub because my linux cannot work with the nt60 loader. Windows has worked without problems. I never created the 200mb system partition because I really don't need it. It's just a waste of space.
The only command that work is "bootsect /nt60 C: /mbr" which restores th nt60 bootloader
When using "bcdedit /export C:\NAME" I get "File not found". "bootrec /RebuildBcd" also results in "access denied". The vulume is already automouted with "partdisk, automount enable". "bootrec /FixMbr" maybe works but "bootrec /FixBoot" gives me again "Access denied" errors.
So can someone point me in the right direction to get this fixed?22. února 2011 6:40
I also have no 100MB partition, my bootloader in on C:.
Please run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\" and copy all files to your document folder, also copy the setupapi logs from the folder C:\Windows\Inf and the file "C:\Windows\winsxs\poqexec.log" to your document folder (otherwise you can't upload it), zip all files into 1 ZIP and upload the zip to your SkyDrive and post a link here.

The problem you're seeing is because we cant update the BCD store information like we need to. If you dont have the automount policies disabled then you might have an issue with the way you set the BCD store up on the drive. Boot into WinRE, use DISKPART to identify the drive letter that WinRE see's as your Windows volume and then run: bcdboot <drive>:\Windows

The file is password protected. I'll send you the password via PM.
edit: How can I send you the password? I can't find anything about PM, etc?
I tried what you suggested but got "Error copying file". So this didn't work either.22. února 2011 20:28

The file will be deleted in 10 min (21:10 GMT). Can you post a quick reply so that I can delete it after you've downloaded. I don't like posting unencrypted files like this on the internet.
What do you mean with " adding a drive letter to the partition with a problem"? How to do this?22. února 2011 21:01

use disk management MMC snapin to assign a drive letter to the 100MB system partition because BCDEdit fails to do this:

The log file is deleted.
What do you mean with "use disk management MMC snapin to assign a drive letter to the 100MB system partition because BCDEdit fails to do this"? I have no 100mb partition. my other 3 partitions are linux part. The drive allows only 4 physical partitions. That's why I've made no extra system partition.22. února 2011 21:16
This thread continues the discussion of my problem here:
I don't know who and why decided to lock the aforementioned section!?! A brief description of the problem:
My hdd has 4 physical primary partitions - three are for linux and the forth is for win7. They were created with gparted some time ago. I also use grub as a bootloader.
Currently I cannot install SP1 because of the error above. The problem is that I have NO (100MB/200MB) system partiotion. That's why the BCD code cannot update something and throws out the error code 0x800f0a12. For more information see the linked thread from above.
