Windows 7 64 Bit deployment using Imagex: the subsystem needed to support the image type is not present
I have been working with imagex recently and have had successes and failures. When capturing a 32 bit image of Windows 7 Enterprise and deploying this image I have had no issues with imagex. However when using a 64 bit version of Windows 7 I get the error "the subsystem needed to support the image type is not present"
Here are the steps I have taken:
1. Created a Windows PE amd64 bit boot Disk from Windows AIK following the walkthrough on the technet site.
2. Run this command
C:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /shutdown
3. Boot to Windows PE, navigate to X:\ directory.
4. Run this command
imagex /compress /fast /flags "Windows 7 64" /verify /capture D: E:\Images\64bitwindows7.wim "Windows 7 64 Bit Image"
I have checked to verify that D: is the filesystem in Windows PE (not c: for whatever reason) and E: is my external hard drive to where i want the image to be located.
After running this command i receive the error:
"The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present."
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Based my knowledge, The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present occurs because the Windows-on-Windows 64-bit (WOW64) isn't available, the 32-bit subsystem isn't supported. For more information, please refer to:
WoW64 is optional in Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core
Message "Subsystem needed to support the image type is not present" error when installing or running applications on Windows Server 2008 R2 Core
Hope that helps
