Win-10|Enterprise|Hyper-V VMs| Host Disk goes 100% by system whenever VMs are turned on RRS feed

  • Hello All,

I have this issue which I'm dealing with for such a long time, I have a HP laptop with 16GB RAM & 1TB Toshiba HDD.

Every time I turn on my VMs my laptop disk goes to High to 100%, I tried chkdsk /f /r , reinstalled windows many times, even after a fight with HP got my Harddisk replaced but the issue is same. I have no conclusion what so ever just to think this might be related to hardware specifically disk. Anyone can help me??

I want to do virtual labs in my laptop and disk goes high and it degrades my laptop performance

IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME PLEASE DO.. IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS now.

  • You're running another OS, so your HDD usage will double (with one VM), reducing performance especially during boot.  An SSD will resolve this, as would adding a 2nd or external drive and moving the VM there.

The slower your HDD is 5400 vs 7200 the more noticeable the performance hit will be.  Since you have a really slow HDD what your experiencing is expected.

For future reference there is another forum for Windows 10 and Hyper-V.
