Windows 8 RTM Windows Update Error code 8024402f RRS feed

  • Question

  • Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 RTM.   When I manually check for Windows Updates, I get Error code 8024402f with error message "windows could not search for new updates.  There was a problem checking for updates".    It seems like Office 2007 is causing this error since if I disable "Microsoft Update"/other Microsoft products, and use Windows update only, it works fine.    Is there a way to clear out beside reinstalling Office?

  • I added these to my dns servers:

    PREFERRED 4.2.2.1
    ALTERNATE 4.2.2.2

That worked.  Taken from this thread

  • I hope someone else can fix this also. I've reinstalled Win 8 RTM at least 7 times until I realized it was office 2010.  I have put on Office 2010 with SP1 and wo SP1, still no good.  Was about to try Office 2007 and saw it appears to do the same thing.  Its been clean installs of office, but there is problem here.

  • Try adding an exception in the firewall for Microsoft Update.

  • I'm also getting this on Windows 8 Pro (Version 6.2.9200 Build 9200) - not sure which application causes it as I upgraded so have lots of "other MS products" e.g. office, visual studio, live ...

    Did you get a resolution?
