Why "Do you want to open this file?" RRS feed

  • Question

  • When MS in its infinite wisdom did away with the Quick Launch bar in Win7, I found a way to get it back (http://hubpages.com/hub/Windows_7_-_Quick_Launch) and it works great. The only problem was that I got a pop-up box asking "Do you want to open this file?" every time I clicked on a program.  The matter was resolved but I don't remember how.  This morning when I started my PC, the entire Quick Launch bar had disappeared (NO I have not applied the SP1 yet, which seems to cause a lot of problems still).  I have rebuilt the Quick Launch but now get the same pop-up box again.
Does anybody know how get rid of that annoying question?
    Thanks

  • Just realized that I cannot use the Links toolbar because it assumes them to be Internet links which is why it gave me the warning.
Have reactivated the Quick Launch bar and all is good again.  Thanks.

  • Try this. Found it in a Google search.

    - Right Click the taskbar, select Toolbars, select New Toolbar
    - Browse the the Links folder in my profile, choose Select Folder

If you still have the original links toolbar showing, remove it by:
    - Right Click the wrong Links toolbar, select Close Toolbar

  • User Account Control Settings is already set to "Never" and still pops the question.

PS Don't have a My Profile directory either.

It's your choice, of course, but I recommend that you do not use the
Quick Launch Bar. In my opinion, the way Windows 7 handles the
situation is much better. Simply pin a program shortcut to the Task
Bar. When you do that, that program will always be on the Task Bar and
always in the same place, whether the program is running or not. As
far as I'm concerned, having it in that place whether or not it's
running is a big advantage. When I click that icon, it brings up the
program, starting it if necessary, so I don't have to remember whether
I had started and minimized it or not.
