A lot of Windows programs stopped working.

    Question

  • Lately I have been getting a lot of errors with windows applications.
At first the picture viewer stopped working and now the snipping tool and Windows Journal stopped working.

These are the errors I'm getting.

I hope somebody can help me.

Please start the command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights [1] and run sfc [2]:

    sfc.exe /scannow

Is it able to find and repair broken files?

    best regards

  • I run sfc.exe /Scannow and got this as result:

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"

This is the log file: http://thomasschoof.com/downloads/CBS.log

  • Hi Thomas,

    the d3d9.dll is damaged.

    Cannot repair member file [l:16{8}]"d3d9.dll " of Microsoft-Windows-DirectX-Direct3D9, Version = 6.1.7600.16385
Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:46{23}]"\??\C:\Windows\System32"\[l:16{8}]"d3d9.dll "; source file in store is also corrupted

replace it with the good DLL from your Windows DVD:

  • I would recommend to download DirectX installer and it should update files.
