File Explorer's Status Bar lost important size/space info from WinXP RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • The Status Bar no longer shows the total size of all the files within the folder/drive you're in.
It also does not show how much free space you have.
When multiple files are selected, the total size is not displayed.
These features should also be included in the Details Pane, so we can use that or the Status Bar.

Status Bar right now is pretty much useless, it only shows how many items the container has.

  • This is something that has to be available as soon as possible. We have to test this so there won't be performence issues. This is a feature that is of high priority. Now I have to right click on the folder and check properties, it would be a lot more intuitive and better to get this on first sight after clicking the folder.

  • Hi,

RC1 installed and this basic information is still not available  :-(

Can we expect to have it one day ?

It's like the 15 files selected limit for total files size in details pane, select the 16th files and get "click here to show more details". Relly annoying

  • This is something I'm still waiting for and is one of the very few things keeping me from upgrading to anything above XP.  For power users that constantly manage lots of files: copies, moves, deletions, this feature is essential in recognizing how much space a file takes up and also useful for comparison between different versions of a specific file or media.  PLEASE RETURN THIS FEATURE so that we don't have to jump through hoops to figure out the size of any given file.

  • I agree,

Statusbar should contain these useful details.

Who want to make a bet? We will need a hundred or a thousand about the VERY SAME ANNOYANCE before Microsoft start to listen?

Why not fix something like this?

  • Is Microsoft going to do anything about this?  I'd really like to hear about updates and what Microsoft's stand is on the issue.  I'm really anxious to see this dumb little bug get solved, because the status bar is SO important for the kinds of file management I do.

  • I agree. This is an important oversight by the developers. I use this feature all the time.

  • Hello Robinson! It's really is inconvenient for me to work without the information about files in Status Bar, Detailed Pan is a good addition but is it possible to make the Status Bar like it used to be in windows XP? Please do us this favor by  making the Status Bar like it used to be in Windows XP! This feature should be made available as soon as possible, Please! Like Duduman said, Its a high priority feature. Now I have to select file and then clcik on properties. It was lot easier in Windows XP.

  • The feature is still missing, that's a pity... Please Microsoft get the useful things back!

  • There is a pretty good workaround:  A nice piece of freeware called ClassicShell by Ivo Beltchev.  It has an Explorer enhancement component that can be installed separately from the classic start menu piece, and it works quite well.  Note the ways it enhances Explorer (up button, free space, total size of selected files)

  • Unfortunately, they changed the status bar again in Windows 8 to a non-standard control and so Classic Shell cannot fix it any more. Windows 8 will probably sink Microsoft worse than Vista.
