Upgrade to 1909 from 1709 and 1803 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Everyone.

Currently we are running 1709 and 1803 Ent.. Due to timing issues, we didn't upgrade to 1903. I know 1909  coming out in the near future and is only a minor update, but is anyone aware of the upgrade path I must take? Do I need to go to 1903 first, then run the 1909 CU? Anyone gone from 1709 or 1803 up to 1903? Any advice is appreciated. Hopefully I can go up to 1909 directly without too many hoops to jump

  • Hello,

You can perform upgrade using ISO file from existing version to newer version. So when V1909 is out, you can download its ISO file and directly upgrade to V1909 from V1709 or V1803. There is no need to go to V1903 and then to V1909. Note that V1909 is not a CU but a feature update from 19H2 development branch.

  • I would suggest you go for the direct path to 19.03 as a version of 19.09 isn't available yet, if you need to do this quickly so yes you would have to install the CU when its out,  or of course you can wait and do 19.09 instead.

  • Firstly, 1909(19H2) is not a CU(Cumulative Update), but a feature update.

For Enterprise edition, we don’t need to go to 1903 first then upgrade to 1909, just use 1909 iso to in-place upgrade. Since 1909 is not release now, we can’t achieve it.

For 1903 machines, they can upgrade to 1909 by step-by-step Check for Updates.

For other versions such as 1709 and 1803, they need 1909 iso to upgrade directly.

    Regards

  • Thanks for your response. I am familiar on the upgrade process. I just want sure if anything changed because of the way they are marketing the update as a feature update.
