Error Installing Trial Version of WIndows 8 - Your PC needs to restart RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I get the following error message when trying to install the Windows 8 trial Enterprise edition.

Your PC needs to restart. Please hold down the power button.

    Error Code: 0x0000005D

    Parameters

    0x030F0304

    0x756E6547

    0x49656E69

    0x6C65746E

I got a "This Platform is not supported" message when I ran the Windows compatibility program on this PC (running Win XP SP3) so I was hoping trying to install the trial version would give me more information about what is incompatible with Windows 8.

    Any ideas?

  • I think 5D means "unsupported processor" (that's the equivalent stop code). List out the hardware and someone may be able to point out the problem.

  • Thanks for your reply.

Here's a link to a dump by the CPU ID program.

  • Regarding hardware issue, I suggest you confirm it with your computer manufacturer.

  • Can you please tell me under what menu item I'll find this setting as I've looked and can't find it. Maybe the processor doesn't support NX. What I was told above is that the error I got meant that the processor wasn't supported by Windows 8.

  • I have no idea because I don't know which motherboard you have. Look under advanced settings.

  • Can't find a setting to do with the XD/NX Bit. I think the evidence is pointing to me not being able to run Windows 8 on this PC. Thanks to all who helped.

  • yes, the CPU should support it, but if you can't enable the feature in the BIOS your are SOL.
