DPM Recovery Point to tape failed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all, let me tell you my problem: the Backup infrastructure is:

    • System Center 2016 DPM (Windows Server 2016)
    • IBM TS3200 Tape Library

Once a month, we must to download a backup to a Tape, to save it in another location.

The procedure is: Protection Group - Create Recovery Point - Long Term tape Protection. The task start, but fail after few minutes:

In the DPM console, the library shows (and if i want to clean, appear the message):

In the IBM admin console, the clean drive shows "No Cleaning Required"

    • I restarted the bkp server and the library.
    • In computer managemet, the device is correctly listed:

The past month the task was executed correctly (was my firts time)

In the middle, we must to move both server from one rack to another. (the library is connected through SAS port)

    Some suggestion please?

    Thanks in advanced.

  • Hi Marcos,

Have you configured multiple long-term tape goals?

For the tape cleaning, the library might require a registry key to function properly in DPM:

    Registry Key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\Agent

    DWORD: RSMCompatMode
    Value: 13 (Decimal)

You'll probably need to reboot for the changes to take effect.

As for the error 24052, did you have a look at the following blog post?
DPM tape jobs take longer than expected or fail with ID 24052

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • Hi, thanks for the response.

I ran the script and the exit was:

The new is that now all the backups failed with the same error (the daily jobs run to a HP Store Once 3540 VTL)

I Will try wit the registry key and tell you the result.

    Regards.

  • Hi, after the registry edit, the error still figure:

I too ran a command to test the library:

    PS D:\DPMLibraryTest> .\DPMLibraryTest.exe /CERTIFY /TL \\.\Changer0 /AT

Does the rescan result match you hardware configuration? [Y/N Default(Y)]:y
    DPM Library Detection Test ...
    Succeeded

    Running DPM Mount/Dismount Test ...Succeeded

    Running DPM Cleaner Test ...Succeeded

    Running Inject/Eject Test ...Succeeded

    Running Read/Write Test ...Succeeded

Result: 5 tests completed successfully, 0 failed

    Operation completed successfully....
