While investigating I found solutions and implemented them:

    1. Renamed Registry branch: HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Server Manager - ServicingStorage - ServerComponentCache

    2. Uninstalled KB related to .NET 4.7 and .NET 4.7.2 followed by reboot

    3. Downloaded/installed .NET 4.7 followed by reboot - tested out same issue, same errors in logs

    4. Renamed Registry branch: HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Server Manager - ServicingStorage - ServerComponentCache

    5. Downloaded/installed .NET 4.7.2 followed by reboot - tested out same issue, same errors in logs

    6. Renamed Registry branch: HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Server Manager - ServicingStorage - ServerComponentCache

    7. Downloaded/installed .NET 4.8 followed by reboot - tested out same issue, same errors in logs

    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Hi

Suggest you clearing the Server Manager Cache %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC

or trying to log on as another user to check if it works.

Besides, update your windows server 2012 R2, uninstall KB4054566 and install KB3186539 (KB4054566), more details you could refer to the following link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3186539/the-microsoft-net-framework-4-7-for-windows-8-1-windows-rt-8-1-and-win

    Hope can help you.

    Have a nice day!

    Best regards

  • Thank you Kiki Shi,

I checked  - KB4054566 is not installed at the moment. I have installed KB3186539 (which is .NET 4.7 itself), cleared %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC  and rebooted the server, but it hasn't resolved the issue. Server Manager keeps crashing

  • Thank you Kiki,

    I ran through https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/74e5494d-78cd-414e-96cb-0a9e388146b2/server-manager-application-error?forum=winservermanager

    but it still doesn't work.

    What was done so far:

    1. Renamed Registry branch: HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Server Manager - ServicingStorage - ServerComponentCache

    2. Uninstalled KB related to .NET 4.7 and .NET 4.7.2 followed by reboot

    3. Downloaded/installed .NET 4.7 followed by reboot - tested out same issue, same errors in logs

    4. Renamed Registry branch: HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Server Manager - ServicingStorage - ServerComponentCache

    5. Downloaded/installed .NET 4.7.2 followed by reboot - tested out same issue, same errors in logs

    6. Renamed Registry branch: HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Server Manager - ServicingStorage - ServerComponentCache

    7. Downloaded/installed .NET 4.8 followed by reboot - tested out same issue, same errors in logs

    8. Removed MMC cache:  %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC but still doesn't work

    9. Run .NET verification: 4.7.0, 4.7.1 and 4.7.2 - verification succeeded

    10. Updated server with all available updates including .NET 4.8

Server Manager still crashing and .NET related errors come up in logs, see above
