I'm a newbie to servers and domain creating and the works.
Been working on a clients pc which I formatted and installed a windows 7 Ultimate 32bit, haven't been able to activate the OS because the client isn't in a rush to buy the license.
Now my issue is that I've been trying to put that PC on the domain but keep getting an error
“An Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for the domain (Domain Name) could not be contacted.
Ensure the domain name is typed correctly.”
I’ve tried numerous things to try see if I could get it onto the Domain but nothing.
My main question is can you put a pc on a domain even if the OS is not activated or do you need to activate the OS for it to be put on the Domain?
1- Your domain have DNS ok
2- go to TCP/IP in Client (PC) and Type Your Domain IP in preferred DNS server under Use the following DNS servr
you do this to direct client to dns then client can see domain from DNS and join to it

Try right clicking my computer->properties->advanced system settings. The systems properties dialog box will open. Next click on the Computer Name tab and down towards the bottom there are two buttons. Click on the button that says change. Beneath the "Member Of" section type in the name of the domain and click ok. When this is performed properly, you will receive a dialog box that will state "Welcome to the ABC domain".
Make sure you have admin rights and use the same account to join the domain or you will most likely encounter issues trying to join if you are using a different account.
1. Create an account (or use administrator account) on domain controller
2. Create the same account on the computer you are trying to join the domain with.
3. Make sure you are logged onto the computer you will be joining, with the account you created.

Hope this helps.
