Cannot run InfoPath 2013 with Microsoft Edge (Chromium engine) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

I installed the new version of Microsoft Edge (Chromium based) and I am checking the compatibility with the Intranet of the company.

Everything is working perfectly, when I click on a library and click on a Word or Excel document it is working fine.

However when I want to open an Infopath document I get an error message :

    Error

This form cannot be opened in a Web browser. To open this form, use Microsoft InfoPath.
Click Close to exit this message.
    HIDE ERROR DETAILS
    Correlation ID:d8ed5e9f-b05b-4065-0d29-8508eefc574a

(the correlation id is different because it is another infopath document but the problem is the same)

We do not want to open the document on the browser. By clicking on the document it should run or ask if I want to open it on Infopath.

What I tried to do is to see the eventlog.

I tried to run a powershell query to get more information but I am a bit lost :

    PS C:\Users\spAdmin> get-splogevent | ?{$_.Correlation -eq "499e5d9f-2092-4065-0d29-8c4845337701" }

  • Hi Lucas092,

I have done a test in my SharePoint and i can open InfoPath 2013 with Microsoft Edge. My Edge version is 83.0.478.54.

For your issue, try to open the form in IE and compare whether the issue exists.

Make sure the form is Web Browser Form.

Customize the form with infopath->File tab->Form Options->Compatibility->Web Browser Form->publish the form:

    Best Regards,

    Lisa Chen

  • Hi Lisa,

Thank you very much for your answer.

What we want is by clicking on the document from the intranet it should open the document in infopath. Not in the browser.

  • Dear Lisa,

    Thank you for your answer.

    Unfortunatly it doesn't work.

I tested to create a new form with infopath played with the compatibility setting but it do not works.

still  get some correlation id error :

Do you think we should reboot or reindexing files ?

    FYI

this what I get when I click on word/excel document and what I would like to see with infopath :

Unfortunately I have the error above for infopath.

    Thank you very much.

    Regards,

    Lucas

  • Hi Lucas092,

Update your Edge to the latest version.

If the issue still exists, i am afraid that you need to use IE instead of Edge.

  • Thank you Lisa for troubleshooting. Unfortunately none of the MS support can provide a solid resolution.

I enabled behavior "Open in the Client application" but still force to open in Browser. If anyone knows how to fix please post. Thank you!

  • I have found that the only thing that partially works to open an existing Infopath Form in the client from an InfoPath Forms Library in Microsoft Edge is to click the 3 dots "..." and then the next three dots and select "Open in Microsoft InfoPath".

However creating a new item in a Forms Library in Edge, Chrome and Firefox is next to impossible unless you first open an existing form from your forms library, close it and then start a new form by clicking "new".  You will sometimes get the "This site is trying to open Office (desktop)" message. Click "Open".  This works inconsistently.  Internet Explorer is the only reliable solution for this problem.  I hate that just because InfoPath is no longer to be supported, I find it very disturbing that Microsoft has not made Edge work for this...especially since IE is falling out of support.  To top it off PowerApps is not a solution for my particular form.

My Edge Version 83.0.478.61 (Official build) (64-bit)
