Span disk failed no VDS permission RRS feed

  • Question

  • I did SMART checks on the drives and everything appears fine.

Here is what the drive situation looks like:

Lost all that I typed...trying again

I can see all the data on Disk 1 and some data on Disk 2. There is nothing showing any corruption on the disk themselves but the span disk is broken. How can repair this? Is there some sort of low-level tool that can tell windows that Disk 2 is the second disk? Not sure how it broke, but it shows that it is missing a disk that is very present and fully functioning.

  • Windows uses CHKDSK C: /F to check a volume,C: can be replaced by any other storage device,it runs on pc restart. As for disks,in run type: diskmgmt.msc in msc,L.click on a drive,go up to Actions/All/Make Active. Also,in cmd type: DiskPart in DiskPart type: list disks type: list Volume type: HELP for all cmds. With most pcs,a Storage controller software/driver exist,Intel uses Intel Storage mgr,see if youre pc has it,updates can be found at this link.

Also,if its a SSD HD,seperate software drivers are needed.
