  • Hi,

    To turn off BitLocker Drive Encryption
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click BitLocker Drive Encryption.
    2. Find the drive on which you want BitLocker Drive Encryption turned off, and click Turn Off BitLocker.
    3. A message is displayed, informing you that the drive will be decrypted and that decryption may take some time. Click Decrypt the drive to continue and turn off BitLocker on the drive.
    By completing this procedure, you have decrypted the drive and removed BitLocker protection.

  • If you want to just remove password, then you can use manage-bde command.

    Suspend BitLocker using

    manage-bde -protectors -disable c:

    To Delete password protector:

    manage-bde -protectors -get d:

    Once you get the output, note the Password id.

    manage-bde -protectors -delete d: -id {..from previous command..}

    If you want to remove encryption, then either do from control panle or manage-bde command.

    manage-bde -off d:

  • Thanks! This was very helpful but the only thing that I did not realize I had to do was to unlock the drives first before I could decrypt the drives.  After I unlocked the drives the options appear and were available for decryption. Thanks again.

  • hi

    I removed the password, and I thought that this will Decrypt the drive, I was surprised to find it still encrypted, anyway when I press unlock it just want to be unlocked using recovery key (which I don't have) or USB, but I still have my password! can I re enable unlocking the drive using the password?

  • I don't see Bitlocker anywhere. Does it have to be downloaded. I had to encrypt on work computer and now retired and want to decrypt the usb storage drive for personal use. I have the password.

  • Was having problems with:

    manage-bde -protectors -delete d: -id {..from previous command..}

    Kept getting ERROR: Parameter "-ID" requires an argument.

     Changed it to

    manage-bde -protectors -delete d: -id "{..from previous command..}"

     (added "" to ID) and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the great advice.
