Windows 7 Hangs after Windows Update RRS feed

  • Question

  • Fresh installed Windows 7 RC last night on my home PC and it worked great.  I then decided to perform the Windows Update.  It found 5 important upgrades, so I donwloaded and installed them.  The PC was able to boot, display the Windows Logo and then froze.  Tried the troubleshooting using F8 and it conduct some test and reported back that the OS was able to boot properly.  Wanting to try booting in safe mode tonight but thought I better ask if there were anyone facing the same issue after performing Windows Update.

    Hi

What were the updates that you installed? Were there any updated hardware drivers included?

Boot into Safe Mode and check the Windows Update History to see which updates were installed.

    Let us know.

Thank You for testing Windows 7

  • Hi Ronnie,

    Updates are as follows:

    KB970420
    KB970858
    KB970789
    KB969497
    KB915597

There is a SiS update as well.  I've reinstalled and ran updates just for Windows and it was still able to restart. I tried to update the SiS driver and lo and behold it hangs.  I'm reinstalling as I'm writting this.  Is there a way to stop the Updates from installing?  At least I just started, I hate to have to reload Windows and data everytime a hardware update makes Windows 7 unresponsive.

  • i have had same issue.  the problem seems to be with the ati update for my mobo.  i installed the latest ati drivers then noticed windows was going to install an older version of the drivers.  i got rid of this update and then installed any options updates relating to hardware first.  i then installed the rest.  after that no problems.  hope this makes sense.

    cheers all
