FRE vs CHK

    Question

  • Of the ISO files for English x64 Win8 there are the 2 below... what's the difference? so I can decide which I prefer to use...  CHK_CCS vs/or FRE_CCPA

I have to grab one.  I never saw my Invite from Connect til after I'd grabbed the Public CP.  I have to redo the install of W8 w/ ONE of these from Connect... but, which?

  • CHK is a checked build.  This means that it has extra instrumentation to help in debugging issues when they arise.

FRE builds dont have this instrumentation and are suitable for most users.

  • & yet the FRE is bigger, um, ok.  Thanks.  I see why, now.  Thanks for clarifying this distinction.   I'll say or suggest CHK is for Developers & FRE is for IT Pros
