How to see if the package is App-V 4.x or 5.x ? RRS feed

    What is the best way to see an application of app-v is 4.x or 5.1 ?

    Please help ;-)

  • It's been a while since I looked at App-V but the file structure of the package should be very different between the two. The App-V 4.x has a SFT format, whilst 5.x is .appv. On the client, App-V 4.x packages would map a Q drive as a requirement whilst this is not required for App-V 5.x

  • Also if you look at the deployment type of the application in Configuration Manager. check the Technology title, it will say "Microsoft Application Virtualisation 5) for v5 :)

    Typically the name of the deployment type will include "Microsoft Application Virtualization 5" too.

    Description

    .appv

    The .appv file is the compressed package file that contains all of the other parts of the package.

    [Content_Types].xml

    This file contains a list of file extensions that the package supports and the type of content to which each extension type maps.

    AppxBlockMap.xml

    This file contains a list of files with details such as header size and file size.

    AppxManifest.xml

    This file contains metadata about the package.

    FilesystemMetadata.xml

    This file contains information such as short file names, the directory-file hierarchy, and the mapping between the root folder and INSTALLDIR.

    Registry.dat

    This file contains registry data for the package.

    StreamMap.xml

    This file contains feature block 1 information.

    .sft

    The .sft file contains all of the files, registry information, and other configuration details of the package.

    Manifest file

    This file is an XML file that lists all of the .osd files in an App-V package.

    .osd

    .ico

    The .ico files are icons files that are used for published shortcuts and file type associations.

    .sprj

    This file is the Microsoft App-V Sequencer project file. It contains references to the .sft and .osd files, and to a large number of settings related to the sequencing process.
