Upgrade SBS 2011 to Windows Server Essentials 2019 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys and Girls,

I have an requirement where I need migrate an existing domain from a SBS 2011 server onto a new Windows Server Essentials 2019 server.

I know that Essentials 2019 has a limitation of one domain and all FSMO roles must be on the Essentials server. But I am unsure whether there is a migration mode install for 2019.

My question is will I be able to join the Essentials server to the existing domain (on the SBS 2011 server) then promote it to a DC? Will it allow me to do this?

I would then look to move the FMSO roles from the SBS 2011 server across before removing the server. Will the standard 21 day grace period apply once the Essentials Server is installed?

    Thanks

    James
