Question on patch kb4457034 for server 2012 R2 using MBSA RRS feed

  • Question

  • A couple of months ago I installed updates on a 2012 R2 server.  I use MBSA (2.3) to scan for patches to install.  Patches install.  I reboot then scan with MBSA again.  I've found three patches needed: KB2919335, KB4457034 and KB4457045.  Installing these patches I get the following responses:

2919335 & 4457045 both with code 240006 Hex meaning they are both already installed.  Checking, yes they are installed.  So, they installed the first time as they should have however MBSA still detects them as needed.  Why?

Secondly and similarly, patch 4457034 is detected as needed each time but it's return code is 8024017 Hex indicating the patch is not applicable.

I went ahead and searched the CBS.log and find this line for this last patch:
    Package_for_KB4457034~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~, ApplicableState: 0, CurrentState:0

Why?  Does that indicate too that the patch is not applicable or that it is not available for install?

I have run sfc /scannow and it found no errors.

Additionally, I'm using the MBSA cab file from the original month, so MBSA will not know of any possible supersedance.

  • Has anyone found any information on this?

I've taken the further steps of uninstalling the two updates installed (KB4457045 and KB2919355 - miss-typed above) with wusa and rebooted.  I will attempt to scan and reinstall them again.

    Yep, it's me.

  • Well, 4457045 uninstalled.  I rebooted.  However 2919355 will not uninstall, reverting it's changes after the status completed bar filled up.  It took a long time, went for a reboot which was required, and failed upon making the changes at that point then reverted the changes.

Anyone have ANY suggestions on this?

    Yep, it's me.
