  • Hi,

Do you mean you can't install it or can't run it successfully?

On 15 June 2007, Microsoft announced that the Microsoft Digital Image suite would be discontinued because most of the feature set in the Digital Image suite of applications had been integrated into newer Microsoft titles and services, including Windows Photo Gallery (it out of support too).

So it would be not compatibility well and run well on Windows 10 device. If you want to use it, we could try to run it with compatibility mode on Windows 10. (Right click the application\Properties\Compatibility.)

  • Hi,

Heres a satisfactory workaround that you may actually want to try that worked for me if you're still looking to use the software.

See it wouldn't install because of that damn Internet Explorer 6 installation block that actually prevents any installation attempt regardless of any compatibility attempts to rectify it. There is no way to actually install it on Windows 10. But it's not over, I recommend using Virtualbox from Oracle. From there you can create a virtual machine of an earlier Windows operating system (I'm using Windows 7). You can then essentially install and use Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 (Or earlier Picture It versions) through an earlier version of Windows on your Windows 10 machine using Virtualbox.

It surprisingly doesn't take up too much extra space doing this either, for me it comes to over 6GB, incase you're space conscious.

    Hope this helps you.

  • Seems to be failing on Windows 10 64bit, which most devices support today.

I found a way to workaround the IE6 installation, which is always fired, even if you run later IE editions.

Because Microsoft Digital Image is installed through a MSI (Microsoft Installer file), I was able to remove the check/install IE6 and continue to install the rest of the suite. So far everything runs fine.

Unfortunately it's not that easy to modify a MSI file. It requires an MSI database editor for example the (Microsoft DEV) tool is ORCA.EXE. More information here:

Once installed, start ORCA and open the Microsoft Digital Image MSI file .\PIP\PI.MSI on Disc 1

    Now follow the next steps:

    1. Save the file to a writeable location if that is not yet the case. Opening it from the DVD makes it RO.
    2. In the left column Tables, select InstallExecuteSequence
    3. Select the column header Sequence. This orders the sequence from 1 to 102
    4. Remove sequence 50 and 51 (Right click - Drop Row) with something like this in the cell Condition
    5. Save the modified MSI file.

You have now an MSI that will install Microsoft Digitial Image 2006 Suite, fail or skip (i see no errors) installing IE6.

Now copy all the content of the DVD Disc 1 to a writable location and replace the original .\PIP\PI.MSI file with the modified one from the previous steps.

Doubleclick the .\PIP\PI.MSI file. This will start installation.
Ignore the dialog that IE6 will be installed, installation will continue and succeed.
