Software Rendering Mode Error?

  • When I try to load Spider Solitaire (or pretty much any other game that comes with Win7 Build 1000) on my HP 2133 Netbook I get the following error message:

The game is running in software rendering mode

Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance.  Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on.

Windows has selected "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter", and I'm assuming that's where the problem lies.  The graphics card is "VIA Chrome 9" according to the HP specs page.  Can I install the Vista 32-bit drivers safely in Win7?

  • The Chrome 9 has full WDDM compatibility, so it should work.

Download the latest driver from the VIA website and give it a shot. Worst case, if it's unstable, you can always roll the driver back.

  • Great!

I replied to both your posts, but didn't realize they were both you, lol.

    I'm glad everything worked out!

    Enjoy Win7!
