What happens after Oct. 22nd? RRS feed

  • Question

  • So for those of us that have been testing RC for the past few months, what happens after October 22nd? Are we going to be required to purchase at full retail price? Or will we get some kind of upgrade discount? Just curious.

  • Hi,

The Windows 7 RC will expire on June 1, 2010. To avoid interruption, you'll need to rebuild your test machine using a valid version of Windows before the software expires. Windows will notify you that the expiration process is beginning, and two weeks later your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. (Learn more about installing Windows.)

  • OMG, I seem to answer this or related questions a lot but, no worries, here's the scoop...

There WAS an bargain priced Upgrade offer for RC folks that ended July 11.  But, Upgrades go from existing Vista installations, NOT from RCs.  So after Oct. 22 you can stay w/ RC til it starts shutting down & finally expires but, sometime between Oct. 22 & when the RC quits you will have to do a clean install of Win7 media you have purchased.
