  • Question

  • I have usb flash drive [16GB]. Can i use it for booting xp from it.
Maybe it is posible to "burn" VHD to flash drive like ISO to CD or DVD disk.
    Main question, HOW?

  • .VHDs are just files.  To use a VHD on a flash drive, just copy it over.  You just need to point WinVPC to the location of the .VHD file.

  • I've done 100s of performance tests. You'd be better off placing the vhd on an external 7200 rpm hard drive. Even the best USB flash media is a bit slowish. If you get a 2.5" external drive, it is bus powered, so it is almost as convenient as a flash drive.

In either case, 7200 rpm drive or flash drive, you are limited by the speed of USB.

  • Hi,

I have also tested this on my side, and I found we can create a VHD file in a USB flash drive. However, booting to a VHD that is located on a remote share or a USB flash drive is not supported.
