Graphics card - Missing Drivers - ATI Radeon 7500 - Causing major problems

    Question

  • My Desktop computer has a ATI Radeon 7500 Graphics card in it and i'm running Windows 7 RC and i tried to find drivers for the card but im not having any luck. I really need the drivers cause nothing is working properly because it thinks my graphics card doesn't support OpenGL and 3D gaphics which i really need cause im trying to play games on my computer. also because there aren't drivers for my card windows media center isn't working either and wont play back any type of video.

can someone tell me how or where i can either get drivers for my Radeon 7500 that are compandible with Windows 7 RC. or simular drivers that will get it to work i really need this fixed soon

  • Next I have a 32 bit Windows Vista driver for the Radeon 7200 - Radeon 9250 era these were extracted from Windows Vista and are not available on the Update site as far as I can tell, I do not have the 64 bit version, but if I get requests and you give me several days, I can look for and update it for those cards. Please check first that your other hardware is 64 bit compatable The drivers are available RADEON__Microsoft_Corporation_-_XDDM , but must be installed from Device Manager using these instructions or it won't install.

Once you have the file downloaded and extracted you must follow these instruction or Win7 will not install the drivers as the generic drivers it uses by default has a newer date. Install by going to device manager -> right click on your display adapter -> select "update driver software" -> select "browse my computer for driver software -> select "let me pick from a list...." -> select "have disk" -> select "browse" -> browse to the folder where your device drivers are located and select atiixpag.inf, and install that driver

I ran my newer card on those drivers and it ran fine, your experience may vary though depending on your hardware. Do not expect too much, but it should be better than the generic driver offered by Win7

    Option 2
These are Windows XP drivers for the same cards, they are newer than the Windows Vista drivers and may work better; These drivers are available 32Bit_XP or can be downloaded from http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/home.aspx and then extracted and installed.

    You need to follow these directions to install these drivers;
Install by going to device manager -> right click on your display adapter -> select "update driver software" -> select "browse my computer for driver software -> select "let me pick from a list...." -> select "have disk" -> select "browse" -> browse to the folder where your device drivers are located and start at the top, keep selecting inf files until one supports your device, and install that driver.

The drivers may work better than the generic ones or may not, let us know. you may get better desktop resolutions, etc, but you will not get Aero desktop features such as transparent windows from these drivers. There are also Omega drivers available on the internet at http://www.omegadrivers.net/ let us know if and how well they work for you

  • Hello,

First you might keep windows update regularly to obtain the latest driver for your device. Note: Drivers on the Windows Update site are directly provided by hardware manufacturers. Microsoft tests drivers in various environments before they are published; however, we cannot guarantee all drivers will work on all hardware platforms as there are too many different models, although their hardware ID are the same as the standard version. In some cases, due to hardware modifications by different manufacturers, the driver updates may cause some error.

If it does not work on your issue, I'd suggest you installing the Vista driver in Compatibility mode. Remove and rescan that hardware device in Device Manager, right-click on the driver executable/installer file -> Properties and select the Compatibility tab; click the checkbox before Run this program in Compatibility mode for option and select Windows Vista in the list-down box; then try installing the device driver. In addition, you can use the Windows XP driver for testing.

Meanwhile, please understand that Windows 7 is a new operating system and whole driverstore has been reprogrammed; you might wait for another period of time till the retail version is released and push the vendor company to upgrade their device driver. Thanks for your time and understanding!

For more details, please look at the first Sticky thread at the top of this forum.

What can I do if my hardware does not work?

This will give you some guidelines.

    Good Luck!

  • I have been using these drivers for a while and the only problem is that I cannot watch online videos on full screen. You should remove all current drivers and get back to Standard VGA & restart before installing. Also, choose Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode when running the installer.
