Panasonic KX-P1150 dot-matrix printer on Windows 7

  • I've been trying to install a KX-P1150 printer on a copy of Windows 7 Enterprise x86 with no luck. Here are the steps I've taken:

When I try to install printer drivers from Windows Update I get the following error:

"Printer Driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed. (Error 0x00000057)"

When I use drivers downloaded from I get this error:

"The folder specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows
    for 32-bit systems."

The drivers downloaded from Panasonic were created in 1993 and worked with Windows XP. I'm guessing the ones I've been trying to download off of Windows Update are just the same ones and error out the same way. The only thing I can think of is that would cause this problem is that the driver is 16-bit, but I've never heard of an x86 architecture taking issue with 16-bit drivers before. Any ideas?
