Why can't I switch from my local account to my Microsoft account?


  • I just upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1. When I check accounts, it shows me logged in as a local account. I clicked "Connect to a Microsoft Account, and logged in using my Microsoft Account info.  It looked like it was working, even giving me the message "You're almost done.  Your existing account will now be changed to a Microsoft account.  All of your files on this PC will remain in place."  When I click "Switch", I get the message "We couldn't change your account because there's already an account on this PC with this email address".

    And I DO have that account - it shows up under "other accounts"!  So, why can't I switch to it?

    Please help!
