FCS server in a workgroup environment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

Is it possible to install Forefront Client Security in a non-domain environment? I'm not talking about the agents (because it is possible with nomom switch), but server infrastructure. If it is possible, what functionality will be unavailable?

  • Hi!

No, you can not install the FCS server roles in a workgroup scenario. It reqiures access to the domain during setup.

  • Here's the limitation if it's work on a workgroup/non-domain deployment:

    • No possibility for reporting
    • Deployment of the configuration "by hand"
    • No possibility to use transparently an internal WSUS for the updates
    • Deployment of FCS client "manually"

For all these functionnalities becoming not usable on a workgroup/non-domain environment it's not a good idea for me to deploy the server infrastructure.

  • As I said, I know that agents can be installed without the reporting feature. But is it physically possible to install FCS server roles in non-domain environment?
