"Also, please ensure your system time is correct and Re-arm you machine, which will reset the trusted time to the current system time and then install SP2. To rearm run “slmgr.vbs -rearm” from elevated command prompt. (Note that you can only do 3 rearms on the same Vista installation!)

If it still fails to install SP2, email me:  zhali AT microsoft Dot com"

Worked for me with x86 Home Premium

sorry that so many of you are seeing this error

the error code you received, indicates that your systems “trusted time” is outside the evaluation period of this beta release.

Often the root cause of this is that either the system time has been set back and forth a few years, or that the CMOS battery on your motherboard is weak and hence causes the system time to be reset at every startup.

To fix this issue you can take the following steps

_check your CMOS battery to ensure it doesn't require replacement.

_Ensure your system time is correct and reinstall Vista(SP1) + SP2 on the machine.

    OR

_check your CMOS battery to ensure it doesn't require replacement.

_Ensure your system time is correct and Re-arm you machine, which will reset the trusted time to the current system time and then install SP2. To rearm run “slmgr.vbs -rearm” from elevated command prompt. Note that you can only do 3 rearms on the same Vista installation!

Hope this unblocks the installation for you,

If you have taken the above steps and setup still fails then go ahead and let us know.

  • Is it possible to check if trusted time is incorrect before initiating all this rearming business?  The time in my bios is exactly the same as the system time...which is automatically synced.  I'm having the same problem, however, do not want to "rearm" my license at this time if its unnecessary...
Why is this problem occurring?  The weak battery would make the most sense...but I'm doubtful that everyone with this error is having that problem.

    Error code: 0x004f013
