attempting to lauch the app, locks up/freezes with no results..  even if running as administrator or in Vista compadiblity mode..

since the app worked under Vista64SP1 we would expect that it should work under Win7,  we have contacted Cisco and reported this problem but expect MSFT to work with Cisco on this issue to resolve as this app is mission critical for Datacenter management

  • It could also be the version of Java installed.  I've found several major vendor software products that don't work quite right with the most recent versions, 6 update 10 and 11.  Take a look at the client software requirments from Cisco, for the version of ASDM that your running, to find the supported versions of Java.

  • I am pretty sure that is due to Internet Explorer 8.0's extra security settings in Windows 7 .
Have you tried lowering down all security parametersin IE 8.0 and disabling Windows Firewall or Windows Defender?

Try using Mozilla FireFox or IE 8.0 in  IE 7.0 mode?

I use ASDM for my cisco PIX.

  • Scott
you were right on the money with the Java version. Mine was at 11 so I removed the update back to version 6 and it works fine now...

  • Which version of ASDM are you running? I'm running 6.1(5)51, which is suppose to work with Java 6 U 10

Regardless of what Java version I run, I can't get ASDM to load.  I've tried Java 6 U 6, 10, 12 in both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I get this error on load:

    Server Version = 6.1(5)51
    Server Launcher Version = 1.5.30, size = 319488 bytes
    Launcher version checking is successful.

  • Software:
    Clean install Win7 64bit.
    Java version 6 update 12 (build 1.6.0_12-b04)
    Cisco ASDM Version: 6.1.5.51

    Same symptoms as kevinfor,

ASDM works under XP with same Java-version.

  • It is an issue with not only the update version but 32bit vs 64bit.  It appears the ASDM does not work with 64bit java, so you must download and install a 32bit version.  As well you will have to download Version 6 update 7 (nothing later).  Some have reported that update 10 works, but most have had success with version 7.

I currently have ASDM installed and working, I have the 32bit and 64bit version of 6 update 7 installed.  You must uninstall any newer versions first, then download and install the 32bit version.

I uninstalled mine, then installed the 64bit version (6 Update 7) and it still didn't work,  I then downloaded and installed 32bit version (6 Update 7) without uninstalling the 64bit version and everything appears to work fine.

  • ASDM is 32-bit so it needs the 32-bit JRE - not 64-bit. This is current as of v6.3(1).
