Windows 7 wont boot. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

Aftre installing Windows 7, and downloading updates, the system refuses to boot.  I've used the repair function on teh installation DVD, and tried using the "bootsect /nt60 c:" option and the "bootsect /nt60 /c: /mbr" options to get this drive to boot.

In the command prompt mode, i can parse data that is on the drive with ease.  This is not a dual boot system, and only contains windows 7. Known good hardware.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Try unplugging all unnecessary devices and try again.  I installed Win 7 64 bit on a friend's PC and encountered the same problem and it took a while but after I unplugged all the USB devices, it booted up.  I plugged them back in one at a time and waited till Win 7 installed the drivers for each.  It turned out that the offender was a Polaroid printer that needed updated drivers and firmware.

  • I agree with Glendon.... Some USB devices with not permit a boot unless unplugged first. I had this same problem with XP where i had an HP Photo Scanner plugged in and it got stuck just after posting. I unplugged it and restarted the computer with no problems. The driver for the scanner WAS installed btw and the unit was working correctly.
