WD Elements 25A2 can't be read RRS feed

  • Question

  • My 1 TB external drive (WD Elements 25A2) can't be read in windows and disappears same as my other flash drives.

I tried reinstalling the driver but it didn't work.

I also tried updating the driver still didn't work.

I can see my WD Elements 25A2 through Testdisk and EaseUS data recovery and I found out that my WD Elements 25A2 had no Drive Letter.

I can't see the WD Elements 25A2 in Disk Management.

I can access my files directly in linux (Ubuntu) and I tried "fsck /dev/sdb1" (CHKDSK Alternative) to my drive there were no errors found and I don't want to use testdisk to recover everything because I don't have a drive that has enough memory to store the recovered files and I don't have backups because that drive have all my backups and I can't use system restore point because I did not created restore points and I don't want to reformat it all files are important.

    Please help me.

[UPDATE]: Windows Disk Management can detect it (known as disk 1) but I can't set a drive letter and I can't set anything.

  • Hi,
Did you try to connect it to other Windows PC to see it can work well?
Please try to use diskpart.exe command to see if you could assign a letter to it.
    1. Open Command Prompt (as admin)
    2. Type:
         Diskpart ,press Enter.
    3. At the DISKPART prompt, type:
Select disk#number (external drive), press Enter.
        list volume, press Enter.
    4. At the DISKPART prompt, type:
        Select volume#number, press Enter.
    5. At the DISKPART prompt, type:
assign letter=L(Where L is the drive letter you want to assign or change.), press Enter.
