Windows 7 fingerprint reader issues

    Question

  • Installation of the new RC of Windows 7 went off without a hitch-except for the fingerprint reader. After going into Control Panel > Biometric devices, I can select the ap.....plication, choose a finger to enroll, enter a password and then I get Truesuite.FPR has stopped working.

    I have an Authentec. Inc aes1610 fingerprint reader

    Anyone else run into this one yet?

  • Dunno the make of my fingerprint reader (it's in my Lenovo x61 Tablet), but it was detected just fine when installing the RC.
    Have you checked Device Manager to see if there's any issues there?
    Have you checked the Authentec site for updated drivers?
    Have you checked Windows Update to see if it has updated Fingerprint drivers?

    Device manager shows no issue. THe device appears to be fine. It is the actual Windows 7 supplied application "truesuite" that is freezing.
    Nothing on the authentic site for Windows 7 (yet)
    Nothing new on Windows Update (yet).

  • Kind of an old post but I figured I would reply.  I had all the issues you guys are talking about.  Here's what I did.  I downloaded the beta drivers from authentec.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/02/20/authentec-fingerprint-sensor-driver-32-bit-and-64-bit-for-windows-7/

    I installed the drivers.  At this point it still didn't work.  I tried a reinstall which does an unistall.  At that point I reinstalled and it worked.  I've done this a few times now as I have reformatted the laptop a couple of times.  Works the exact same evertime.  The first install never works.  After that you're good to go.

  • I'm experiencing a similar problem on a T500 with an AES2810 reader running Win7 Ent x64 RTM. The FP reader was working fine after Win7 detected and install the Authentec driver published to Windows Update. However, I decided to try Lenovo's beta fingerprint management software (unseccessfully). After removing the Lenovo application, I'm now getting the "TrueSuite.FPR has stopped working" error. Multiple uninstalls, reboots, and reinstalls of the TrueSuite driver produce the same error.

    Any other ideas?

  • You need to download the newest version which is 2.0. Should be found under the support page of your laptop manufacturer.  Also making sure you are using the newest drivers from Authentec.

    reference this thread:

  • No luck. I installed the latest x64 Authentec driver pacakge from http://www.authentec.com/win7beta64.cfm, and I can see the TrueSuite 2.0 management application attempt to load. However, the application crashes with the message "TrueSuite.FPR has stopped working" and writes the following event in the application log. Is it strange that the GUI shows version 2.0, while the event shows 1.2.1.0?

    <snip>

  • no, you must reinstall the truesuite app. I think version 2.0 is the newest. After that, if it doesnt work, uninstall the FP reader, and the software, and reinstall just the application.

    let me know...

  • I'm getting the same problem - initially my fingerprint reader worked (Authentec AES2501A), and was logging me in, but then crashed everytime on resume from sleep, so I uninstalled it, downloaded the latest Truesuite App (version 2), but I still get the error "Truesuite.fpr has stopped working"

    Any ideas what to do next? I don't want to have to roll back to Vista because of this!

  • And yes I've contacted Authentec directly, all they have to say is their drivers are all available on Windows Update, which is where I got the latest Truesuite/driver combo from, but it keeps crashing!!!
    Tuesday, December 22, 2009 6:31 PM
  • As dumb as this sounds, my solution for the previous version of the driver was to keep trying until it worked. While attempting to enroll my fingerprints, the management application would crash on the first try...and the second try...and so on. After five or ten attempts, the application would finally load and allow me to enroll. Yeah, it's pretty stupid. I have no explanation for the behavior.

  • This problem is special for Windows 7. I had that same. It starts after you update Windows 7. It installs update for NET. Framework, upgrade to version 4. What you need to do is: go to control panel/ uninstall programs. On the left side you find: "Turn Windows features on or off". There will be NET. Framework 3.51. Just click on that and click OK. It will enable for use version NET. Framework 3.51 along with version 4.0. Restart computer and you should be able use True Suite again.

    Best Regards
