Difference between en_windows_8_1_enterprise_x64_dvd_2971902.iso released 17/10 and en_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707217.iso released 9/9 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does anybody know about the difference of the Win 8.1 Enterprise versions published on MSDN on September 9th vs. what was published on October 17th? Filenames and hashes are both different.

Funny enough, only the enterprise edition saw a new ISO on launch date.

Answers

  • The new ISO has the 1st larger Update KB2883200 included:

Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 General Availability Update Rollup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2883200

If you install the Update after you installed Win8.1 with the old ISO both are the same.

  • The earlier Windows 8.1 ISOs that shipped in September can only do clean installs with fresh product keys; they don't include the in-place update or refresh functionality of the new ISOs.  Other then that, the bits are identical.

As others have stated there is simply an update rollup added.

I always urge clean installs, can cure 1001 problems fast

I am using the Pro version and its been very fast on my rig.
