SQL Server ent ed installation on Windows Server core Failover cluster RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I am chasing any information to assist in doing a SQL Server 2019 enterprise edition install on a 2 node Windows Server core.

The process to install clustered sql server on normal windows server cluster is understood and done many times.  In this case it is installation on Server core.

Information on MS sites for pre-reqs etc do not provide any detailed information of a sql cluster install on server core so I am not even sure its supported?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

  • Hey Harper,

-create VM (2 or more based on requirement) and DC VM

    - Add to domain

-Allocated the IP address and name for the cluster

-Add the server to be the part of the cluster

    Node 1 and node 2.

    - validate the cluster

    - Allocate the SQL server network name and IP

Install SQL server on Node 1- Installation select Failover cluster installation - Provide SQL server Network name and IP in the installation step

Install SQL server on Node 2- Installation select add nodes and used the same SQL server Network name and IP in the installation step

    - SQL server config manager - enable always  on features on both nodes

-Allocate the IP for listener and listener name

    - Primary node - SSMS - create New avilabilty group and provide the listener IP and name
