Wlan-Driver for Windows 7

    Question

  • Hey guys,
I'm new here and first of all i have to say, sorry for my english, but i can't talk it as good as i want..
If someone could answer in German, I could read it better ;) But english is also no problem...

    So, now my question...

Does anybody know, where I could find a driver for my Wireless-Lan-Card?
The Card is named " Ralink RT 2500 wlan card "...
First I tried to install the drivers from xp or Vista, but this didn't worked...
And you are my last chance to install Windows 7 finally...

Or if someone knows, if I connect my Computer through Lan to the Internet if the Card can find the driver automatically about the windows update ?

    Hope for answers,
    Thanks.

  • Hello,

I'd suggest using the previous driver in Compatibility mode. Remove that hardware device in Device Manager, right-click on the driver executable/installer file and select the Compatibility tab; click the checkbox before Run this program in Compatibility mode for option and select Windows Vista in the list-down box; then try installing the device driver. In addition, you can use the Windows XP driver for testing.

If the problem still persists, please understand that Windows 7 is a new operating system (only the beta version) and whole driverstore has been reprogrammed; some old driver is not compatible with new OS. I suggest that you should wait for another period of time till the retail version is released and push the vendor company to upgrade their device driver. Thanks for your time and understanding!

What can I do if my hardware does not work?

This will give you some guidelines.

    Good Luck!

  • There are only Drivers for XP and Vista...

So there are no Driver for Windows 7 avaible yet ?

Do somebody think, that if I install Windows on my Computer and connect it to internet via a Lan cable, the windows update would fix it or is this improbably ?

  • You are not likely to see drivers specific to Windows 7 until it ships. It does have some drivers for wellknown hardware but I doubt that your Ralink will fall in that category. However as it is only a minor release the latest Vista drivers should work.

  • I had this exact same problem. I am using a Dynex USB wireless card but it using the Ralink RT 2500 chip. I don't remember exactly the steps I had to do but I do remember I had to force the system to install XP drivers using XP Service 2 compatibility mode. Once the system atleast recognized what type of card it was I was able to install Vista drivers using Vista RC1 compatibility mode to get the most up to date driver. As I type I am using the wireless card to access the internet and have not had any kind of issues so far. Hope that helps.
