I was helping my daughter with her new Vista Home Premium computer, a Toshiba. We were trying to disable the login password requirement for network users and found a method that required using gpedit.msc. That is when we found that gpedit.msc is missing from her computer. There is a gpedit.dll and one or two other gpedit.* files, but no gpedit.msc.
Why would gpedit.msc be missing? Is it supposed to be in Vista Home Premium? How can we get it?
Like XP Home edition I don't believe the group policy editor is available in Vista Home edtions. With that said you can download an Excel spread sheet that lists all available group policies and maps them to the pertinent registry entries.
Have you seen this?
Since Vista Home Premium does not include the gpedit.msc program to get into the Group Policy Editor, how can I change the default setting for "Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only"?
I understand this helps with VISTA/XP file sharing.
Hey I hope this helps I found this site with the reg keys so you can edit .... http://www.fiveanddime.net/windows-vista-notes/windows-vista-registry-settings.html
Start > Run > REGEDIT > "HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LimitBlankPasswordUse"
change it to 0 ... or 1 depending on what u want it to do .. enable/disable .... =)
