Disable users can turn off Lync RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are using Lync 2013 with Office 365 and we deployed it to the whole company. But like 50% off the employees turn off Lync and unchecked the check box "Automaticcaly turn on Lync when Windows Starts". Is there a way we can prevent this with a GPO?

Also is it possible to start Lync 2 min's after the computer started?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

Yes you can but you'll need to use a script that check if the Lync.exe task is running or not:

    :begin

    tasklist |find "lync.exe"
    if errorlevel 0 goto start

    goto begin

    :start

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\Lync.exe" /fromrunkey

    goto begin

The only issue is when the user logs off...

  • You can apply this using GPO By modifying in registry Key

    Lync 2010 Client

    Registry Location

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Communicator

    Registry Key Name

    AutoRunWhenLogonToWindows

    Registry Key Type

    REG_DWORD

    Registry Key Value

    0 – Lync client won’t start automatically

1 – Lync client will start automatically

  • Hi StijnS,

The registry key for Lync 2013 is as below:

    Registry Location: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Lync(REG_SZ)

    Registry key value: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\lync.exe" /fromrunkey

    For details, see http://blogs.technet.com/b/rischwen/archive/2013/06/20/lync-2013-client-auto-start-registry-key.aspx.
