Win 7 Pro Desktop and Program Icons show a .LNK extension and have adobe icon

  • A client called earlier today and staetd that he tried to open a Adobe Reader file and an error message popped up stating "which program do you want to associate with?"  He select Adobe now all program icons and desktop shortcuts show the "Adobe" logo with a .LNK file extension. I tried running System Restore but it errored out stating it could not access a file required.

I ran a system scan with Bit Defender and it is clean. Anyone heard of this happening to all of the icons? I am stumped on this one.

  • Hi Linda / Daniel,

Unfortunetly none of the fixes in the link above worked for me. What I did was follow the steps in the following link:

Once I determined all programs, shortcuts, etc were functioning properly I deleted the original profile. All is well for now. I am wondering if Adobe has some sort bug interacting with Windows 7 32 bit.

    Thanks for the replies,
