Explorer search issuses: Search box time. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

When using the explorer file search I start to type into it but it usually "dings" after about 4 characters, goes off searching for longer than I'd expect and then comes back with files that have the first character (and files that don't have the first character in the filename but was in a folder that only had the fisrt character in it) because the search box only took in the first character and ignored the other 3 characters.

Is there a registry tweak of search setting that makes explorer file search input box wait longer or wait till I hit <enter>?

    any help really appreciated.

    glenn :o)

  • Hi,

Try turning off "find partial matches" may be helpful.

    Choose Start > Documents.

In the upper-left area, click the down-arrow next to Organize.

    Choose Folder and Search Options.

    Select the Search tab.

Hope above information can help you.
