External hard drive not recognized

  • I recently removed my external hardrive (model # MHW2160BH PL) from my HP laptop so I could use it as an external hard drive on my new toshiba lap top, which is equipped with Windows 7. I purchased a 2.5" HDD external case to do this. However, the computer does not recognize the hard drive. Having read other posts related to this problem, I right clicked computer, then selected manage and disk management, but my hard drive remains hidden/ unlisted. No alerts come up to indicate that the computer recognizes the hard drive at all. THe hard drive makes a sound when I connect it to the lap top via usb cable, so it appears that it is working. How can I resolve this issue?

  • Have you looked at the drive with disk manager to see if it is there?

If not check the USB connector to the disk to make sure its snug. Check the connection to the disk too.
