Windows 7 print spooler., constant restart.

    Question

  • Hello,

We have a laptop at work that has Windows 7 32-bit on it.

At least once a day when the user is trying to print anything it will error out.

When I go into ANY printer properties and try to print a test page I get: "Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print troubleshooter for assistance? The server print spooler on the server is not running. Please restart the spooler on the server or restart the server machine."

Obviously the print server (w2003) is functioning properly and everyone else in the company can print without any issues.

All the printers are mapped and get the drivers pushed from the server via login script.

The other "few" Windows 7 machines do not experience any issues like that at all.

The laptop had Windows 7 cleanly installed about 5m ago.

Nothing relevant in the Event Log.

The ONLY way to fix this is to restart the spooler on the laptop.

As you can imagine the end user is not to happy always going to restart the spooler.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

    Please follow this steps:

    1. From start menu, enter "Print Management". Then remove all the drivers and printers

    2. Use the FIX IT tool from Microsoft to repair the print spooler

    http://support.microsoft.com/gp/printing_problems

    3. from a cmd, check the system component with sfc /scannow

    4. Add your network printer and try again.
